RESUMO

In this research, we unveil the medical potential of pearls by identifying a novel bioactive peptide within them for the first time. The peptide, termed KKCHFWPFPW, emerges as a pioneering angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, originating from the pearl matrix of Pinctada fucata. Employing quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry, this peptide was meticulously selected and pinpointed. With a molecular weight of 1417.5 Da and a theoretical isoelectric point of 9.31, its inhibitory potency was demonstrated through a half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 4.17 µM, established via high-performance liquid chromatography. The inhibition of ACE by this peptide was found to be competitive, as revealed by Lineweaver-Burk plot analysis, where an increase in peptide concentration correlated with an enhanced rate of ACE inhibition. To delve into the interaction between KKCHFWPFPW and ACE, molecular docking simulations were conducted using the Maestro 2022-1 Glide software, shedding light on the inhibitory mechanism. This investigation suggests that peptides derived from the P. martensii pearl matrix hold promise as a novel source for antihypertensive agents.

Cervical cancer is a common malignancy in women, with high incidence rate and mortality. Persistent infection of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most important risk factor for cervical cancer and precancerous lesions. Cervicovaginal microbiota (CVM) plays an essential role in the defense of HPV infections and prevention of subsequent lesions. Dominance of Lactobacillus is the key of CVM homeostasis, which can be regulated by host, exogenous and endogenous factors. Dysbiosis of CVM, including altered microbial, metabolic, and immune signatures, can contribute to persist HPV infection, leading to cervical cancer. However, there is no evidence of the causality between CVM and cervical cancer, and the underlying mechanism remains unexplored. Considering the close correlation between CVM dysbiosis and persistent HPV infection, this review will overview CVM, its role in cervical cancer development and related mechanisms, and the prospects for therapeutic applications.

Ultrasonic imaging is crucial in the fields of biomedical engineering for its deep penetration capabilities and non-ionizing nature. However, traditional techniques heavily rely on impedance differences within objects, resulting in poor contrast when imaging acoustically transparent targets. Here, we propose a compact spatial differentiator for underwater isotropic edge-enhanced imaging, which enhances the imaging contrast without the need for contrast agents or external physical fields. This design incorporates an amplitude meta-grating for linear transmission along the radial direction, combined with a phase meta-grating that utilizes focus and spiral phases with a first-order topological charge. Through theoretical analysis, numerical simulations, and experimental validation, we substantiate the effectiveness of our technique in distinguishing amplitude objects with isotropic edge enhancements. Importantly, this method also enables the accurate detection of both phase objects and artificial biological models. This breakthrough creates new opportunities for applications in medical diagnosis and nondestructive testing.

Welding process, as one of the crucial industrial technologies in ship construction, accounts for approximately 70% of the workload and costs account for approximately 40% of the total cost. The existing welding quality prediction methods have hypothetical premises and subjective factors, which cannot meet the dynamic control requirements of intelligent welding for processing quality. Aiming at the low efficiency of quality prediction problems poor timeliness and unpredictability of quality control in ship assembly-welding process, a data and model driven welding quality prediction method is proposed. Firstly, the influence factors of welding quality are analyzed and the correlation mechanism between process parameters and quality is determined. According to the analysis results, a stable and reliable data collection architecture is established. The elements of welding process monitoring are also determined based on the feature dimensionality reduction method. To improve the accuracy of welding quality prediction, the prediction model is constructed by fusing the adaptive simulated annealing, the particle swarm optimization, and the back propagation neural network algorithms. Finally, the effectiveness of the prediction method is verified through 74 sets of plate welding experiments, the prediction accuracy reaches over 90%.

Conventional B-mode ultrasound imaging has difficulty in delineating homogeneous soft tissues with similar acoustic impedances, as the reflectivity depends on the acoustic impedance at the interface. As a quantitative imaging biomarker sensitive to alteration of biomechanical properties, speed-of-sound (SoS) holds promising potential for tissue and disease differentiation such as delineation of different breast tissue types with similar acoustic impedance. Compared to two-dimensional (2D) SoS images, three-dimensional (3D) volumetric SoS images achieved through a full-angle ultrasound scan can reveal more intricate morphological structures of tissues; however, they generally require a ring transducer. In this study, we introduce a 3D SoS reconstruction system that utilizes hand-held linear arrays instead. This system employs a passive reflector positioned opposite the linear arrays, serving as an echogenic reference for time-of-flight (ToF) measurements, and a high-definition camera to track the location corresponding to each group of transmit-receive data. To merge these two streams of ToF measurements and location tracking, a voxel-based reconstruction algorithm is implemented. Experimental results with gelatin phantom and ex vivo tissue have demonstrated the stability of our proposed method. Moreover, the results underscore the potential of this system as a complementary diagnostic modality, particularly in the context of diseases such as breast cancer.

Objective: To explore the application of serum cardiac troponin T (cTnT), brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels, and electrocardiogram changes in the treatment and prognosis evaluation of severe pneumonia in children. Methods: 120 children with severe pneumonia (severe group) admitted to our hospital from June 2020 to December 2022 were selected as the study subjects with prospective study. They were divided into survival group (n=78) and death group (n=42) based on their survival status; 120 children with mild pneumonia were selected as the control group. Compare the levels of serum cTnT and BNP, as well as the changes in electrocardiogram, to analyze their predictive value for the prognosis of pediatric patients and the influencing factors of prognosis. Results: The proportion of children with cTnT, BNP, and abnormal electrocardiogram after treatment was lower than before treatment (P<0.05). The proportion of children with cTnT, BNP, and abnormal electrocardiogram in the severe group was higher than that in the mild group (P<0.05). The proportion of children with serum cTnT, BNP levels, and abnormal electrocardiogram in the death group after treatment was higher than that in the survival group (P<0.05). Bundle branch block, low or inverted T waves, cTnT, and BNP are prognostic factors for children with severe pneumonia (P<0.05). The combined prediction of serum cTnT and BNP for the prognosis of severe pneumonia in children is better than that of single prediction (Z combined detection - cTnT=2.474, Z combined detection - BNP=2.494, P=0.013, 0.013). Conclusion: The proportion of abnormal cTnT, BNP, and electrocardiogram is increased in patients with severe pneumonia, and those with high expression and abnormalities have poor prognosis. cTnT and BNP have high predictive value for the prognosis of children with severe pneumonia.

PURPOSE: The primary aims of this study were to evaluate the prevalence of wound-related pain (WRP) in patients with chronic wounds and assess the use of pain relief measures. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study. SUBJECTS AND SETTING: A convenience sample of patients with chronic wounds was recruited from outpatient clinics of 12 hospitals covering 7 of 13 cities in the Jiangsu province located in eastern China from July 10 to August 25, 2020. The sample comprised 451 respondents, and their mean age was 54.85 (SD 19.16) years; 56.1% (253/451) patients were male. METHODS: An investigator-designed questionnaire was used to collect pain-related information from patients. The questionnaire consisted of 4 parts: (1) basic demographic and clinical information (patient and wound characteristics); (2) wound baseline pain; (3) wound-related procedural pain and pain relief method; and (4) the effect of WRP on the patient. Pain was assessed using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) scored from 0 (no pain) to 10 (worst pain). Severity of pain was based on NRS scores' classification as mild (1-3), moderate (4-6), and severe (7-10). The survey was conducted from July 10 to August 25, 2020. Participants were instructed on use of the NRS and then completed the questionnaire following dressing change independently. RESULTS: The 3 most common types of chronic wounds were traumatic ulcers, surgical wounds, and venous leg ulcers. The 3 most prevalent locations were lower limbs, feet, and thorax/abdomen. Of all patients, 62.5% (282/451) and 93.8% (423/451) patients experienced wound baseline pain and wound-related procedural pain, respectively. The mean score of wound baseline pain was 3.76 (SD 1.60) indicating moderate pain. During wound management, the highest pain score was 6.45 (SD 2.75) indicating severe pain; the most severe pain scores were associated with debridement. The use of drugs to relieve wound pain was low, while the use of nondrug-based analgesia was relatively high. Because of WRP, patients with chronic wounds feared dressing changes, hesitated to move, and showed a decline in sleep quality. CONCLUSIONS: Wound baseline pain and wound-related procedural pain were very common in patients with chronic wounds. In the future, targeted intervention plans should be developed by combining drug-based and nondrug-based analgesia according to pain severity.

This study introduces the optical path-optimized dual-grating chromatic line confocal imaging (DG-LCI) technique for high-resolution and wide-range surface topography measurements. Chromatic line confocal imaging (LCI) finds extensive applications in high-speed 3D imaging of surface morphology, roughness analysis in industrial production, and quality inspection. A key advantage of LCI is its ability to achieve a large depth of focus, enabling the imaging system to measure a wide range in the Z direction. However, the challenge lies in the trade-off between the measurement range and resolution. Increasing the measurement range reduces the resolution, making it unsuitable for precise measurements required in industrial processing. Conversely, enhancing the resolution limits the measurement range, thereby sacrificing the advantage of LCI systems' broad measurement capabilities. Addressing this limitation, we propose a dual optical path dual-grating structure using a simplified and ingenious optical path optimization design. This design overcomes the challenge of sacrificing the millimeter-level measurement range while simultaneously improving the resolution. Rigorous simulations and experiments validate the effectiveness and validity of our proposed method.

China leads the world in freshwater pearl production, an industry in which the triangle sail mussel (Sinohyriopsis cumingii) plays a pivotal role. In this paper, we report a high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of S. cumingii with a size of 2.90 Gb-the largest yet reported among bivalves-and 89.92% anchorage onto 19 linkage groups. The assembled genome has 37,696 protein-coding genes and 50.86% repeat elements. A comparative genomic analysis revealed expansions of 752 gene families, mostly associated with biomineralization, and 237 genes under strong positive selection. Notably, the fibrillin gene family exhibited gene family expansion and positive selection simultaneously, and it also exhibited multiple high expressions after mantle implantation by transcriptome analysis. Furthermore, RNA silencing and an in vitro calcium carbonate crystallization assay highlighted the pivotal role played by one fibrillin gene in calcium carbonate deposition and aragonite transformation. This study provides a valuable genomic resource and offers new insights into the mechanism of pearl biomineralization.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive impairment, a significant problem in older adults, may be associated with diet. This study aims to examine the association between the dietary diversity score (DDS), dietary pattern (DP), and cognitive impairment in elderly Chinese. This research further explored the role of psychological balance (PB) as a mediator in the relationship between diet and cognitive impairment. METHODS: A total of 14,318 older adults from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Study (CLHLS) in 2018 were included. Latent class analysis (LCA) was used to identify patterns in seven food varieties. Binary logistic regression models were used to determine factors associated with the DDS, DP, and cognitive impairment. The multiple mediation effect model was evaluated using model 6 in the PROCESS version 3.5 program. RESULTS: Among the participants, 4294 (29.99%) developed cognitive impairment. Compared to people in food variety group two or lower, people with a high dietary diversity score (DDS) had lower odds of cognitive impairment. Compared to DP1, DP2 (OR = 1.24, 95%CI = 1.09 to 1.40) was associated with a higher risk of cognitive impairment, and DP4 (OR = 0.79, 95%CI = 0.69 to 0.89) was associated with a lower risk of cognitive impairment. PB mediated the relationship between DDS, DP, and cognitive impairment, with a mediating effect of 27.24% and 41.00%. CONCLUSIONS: A DP that is rich in fruits, vegetables, red meat, fish, eggs, beans, nuts, and milk was related to a lower risk of cognitive impairment. PB has an indirect impact on cognitive impairment. Our findings underscore the importance of promoting a diverse diet, which may contribute to a lower risk of cognitive impairment in older adults. The PB of the elderly should also be taken into consideration.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an essential role in vertebrate myogenesis and muscle diseases. However, the dynamic expression patterns, biological functions, and mechanisms of lncRNAs in skeletal muscle development and regeneration remain largely unknown. In this study, a novel lncRNA (named lncMGR) was differentially expressed during breast muscle development in fast- and slow-growing chickens. Functionally, lncMGR promoted myoblast differentiation, inhibited myoblast proliferation in vitro, and promoted myofiber hypertrophy and injury repair in vivo. Mechanistically, lncMGR increased the mRNA and protein expression of skeletal muscle myosin heavy chain 1 A (MYH1A) via both transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation. Nuclear lncMGR recruited cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (CDK9) to the core transcriptional activation region of the MYH1A gene to activate MYH1A transcription. Cytoplasmic lncMGR served as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to competitively absorb miR-2131-5p away from MYH1A and subsequently protected the MYH1A from miR-2131-5p-mediated degradation. Besides miR-2131-5p, cytoplasmic lncMGR could also sponge miR-143-3p to reconcile the antagonist between the miR-2131-5p/MYH1A-mediated inhibition effects and miR-143-3p-mediated promotion effects on myoblast proliferation, thereby inhibiting myoblast proliferation. Collectively, lncMGR could recruit CDK9 and sponge multiple miRNAs to regulate skeletal muscle development and regeneration, and could be a therapeutic target for muscle diseases.

Plant growth promoting microbe assisted phytoremediation is considered a more effective approach to rehabilitation than the single use of plants, but underlying mechanism is still unclear. In this study, we combined transcriptomic and physiological methods to explore the mechanism of plant growth promoting microbe Trichoderma citrinoviride HT-1 assisted phytoremediation of Cd contaminated water by Phragmites australis. The results show that the strain HT-1 significantly promoted P. australis growth, increased the photosynthetic rate, enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities. The chlorophyll content and the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) were increased by 83.78%, 23.17%, 47.60%, 97.14% and 12.23% on average, and decreased the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) by 31.10%. At the same time, strain HT-1 improved the absorption and transport of Cd in P. australis, and the removal rate of Cd was increased by 7.56% on average. Transcriptome analysis showed that strain HT-1 induced significant up-regulated the expression of genes related to oxidative phosphorylation and ribosome pathways, and these upregulated genes promoted P. australis remediation efficiency and resistance to Cd stress. Our results provide a mechanistic understanding of plant growth promoting microbe assisted phytoremediation under Cd stress.

BACKGROUND: The management of chemotherapy induced anemia (CIA) remains challenging. The potential risk and benefits in providing patient-centered care need to be balanced; the disease is multifactorial; and the major treatments including red blood cell (RBC) transfusions, erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) and intravenous injection (i.v.)iron supplementation have a unique set of strengths and limitations. Also, most previous survey based on the patient data could not reveal the process of evaluation and decision-making for CIA treatment from a physician's perspective. As the comparison of China Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO), National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) guidelines, the standard of CIA treatment in China will vary from United States and Europe, for example, the initial hemoglobin (Hb) for RBC transfusions. In order to understand the diagnosis, treatment, and unmet medical needs of CIA patients, the China Medical Education Association (CMEA), in conjunction with Cancer Hope Medium, initiated the first national survey of Chinese physicians regarding the diagnosis and treatment of CIA. METHODS: The CMEA sent an online, 12-item questionnaire (via wjx.cn) to physicians across China from September 1, 2022 to October 22, 2022. Two hundred and sixty-five samples were calculated usingsurveyplanet.com. The questionnaire evaluated the impact of anemia on chemotherapy interruption, initial treatment, the target Hb level of CIA in, and the current status of ESAs prescription in clinical practice. Respondents were asked to score their reasons for not using ESAs (including safety issues, drug access in practice or adherence) and the risk options of the current treatment including ESAs, RBC transfusion, and i.v.iron. RESULTS: A total of 331 questionnaires among 5,000 web visits were gathered, covering 247 hospitals in 29 provinces across China, of which 130 (53%) were tier IIIA hospitals, 50 (20%) were tier III B hospitals, 59 (24%) were tier IIA hospitals, and 8 (3%) were tier II B hospitals. The frequency of chemotherapy dose delay/reduction due to anemia was 24% [standard deviation (SD) 49%]. Most responding physicians rated an initial Hb level for ESAs treatment to be 80 g/L, with a favorable Hb level for chemotherapy being 100 g/L (60%), which would not limit treatment availability. The majority (67.6%, n=221) of physicians who responded indicated that they had used ESAs for anemia correction, while the others (32.4%, n=106) reported never using them. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study in conducting a large-scale survey on the diagnosis and treatment of CIA in China from a physicians' perspective. We found that in China, nearly one-quarter of patients undergoing chemotherapy with concurrent anemia may experience interruption of chemotherapy and that the initiation of anemia treatment is not adequately timed. In treating CIA, most physicians prioritize the completion of chemotherapy via Hb level over treating the symptoms of anemia.

Hexavalent chromium (Cr(Ⅵ)) is a significant environmental pollutant because of its toxic and carcinogenic properties and wide use in various industries. Hence, there is an urgent need to develop accurate and selective approaches to detect the concentration of Cr(Ⅵ) in agricultural and aquaculture products to help humans avoid potential hazards of indirectly taking in Cr(Ⅵ). In this work, we report a "turn off-on" fluorescent sensor based on citric acid coated, 808 nm-excited core-shell upconversion nanoparticles (CA-UCNPs) and self-assembled copper porphyrin nanoparticles (nano CuTPyP) for sensitive and specific detection of Cr(Ⅵ). Nano copper 5, 10, 15, 20-tetra(4-pyridyl)-21H-23H- porphine obtained by acid-base neutralization micelle-confined self-assembly method function as an effective quencher due to its excellent optical property and water solubility. Through electrostatic interactions, positively charged nano CuTPyP are attracted to the surface of negatively charged CA-UCNPs, which can almost completely quench the fluorescence emission. In the presence of Cr(Ⅵ), nano CuTPyP can discriminatively interact with Cr(Ⅵ) and form nano CuTPyP/Cr(Ⅵ) complex, which separates nano CuTPyP from CA-UCNPs and restores the fluorescence. The sensing system exhibits a good linear response to Cr(Ⅵ) concentration in the range from 0.5 to 400 µM with a detection limit of 0.36 µM. The sensing method also displays high selectivity against other common ions including trivalent chromium and is applied to the analysis of Cr(Ⅵ) in actual rice and fish samples with satisfactory results.

Theory and experiment have revealed that spin-orbit coupling (SOC) strongly depends on the relativistic effect in topological insulators (TIs), while the influence of orbitals is always ignored. Herein, we provide a direct way of controlling effective SOC with the help of orbital effects, reducing the dependence on elements. Taking 5d W2CO2 and 4d Mo2CO2 MXenes as a specific example, we predict that by decreasing the hybridization strength of W atoms with C or O atoms in 2D W2CO2, the nontrivial bandgaps at the Γ-point are directly enhanced. The weak hybridization of W atoms with ligand elements enhances the electron localization of degenerate d-orbitals of three groups under the triangular prism crystal field, inducing stronger on-site Coulomb repulsion that enhances orbital polarization as well as boosts the SOC effect. Meanwhile, similar results have also been observed in 4d Mo2CO2. This implies that the orbital effects are an efficient and straightforward way to control the nontrivial bandgap in 2D MXene TIs. Our work not only provides an alternative perspective on designing large nontrivial bandgaps but also brings a possibility to control the SOC effect for TI devices.

STUDY QUESTION: What is the significance and mechanism of human seminal plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs) in regulating human sperm functions? SUMMARY ANSWER: EV increases the intracellular Ca2+ concentrations [Ca2+]i via extracellular Ca2+ influx by activating CatSper channels, and subsequently modulate human sperm motility, especially hyperactivated motility, which is attributed to both protein and non-protein components in EV. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: EVs are functional regulators of human sperm function, and EV cargoes from normal and asthenozoospermic seminal plasma are different. Pre-fusion of EV with sperm in the acidic and non-physiological sucrose buffer solution could elevate [Ca2+]i in human sperm. CatSper, a principle Ca2+ channel in human sperm, is responsible for the [Ca2+]i regulation when sperm respond to diverse extracellular stimuli. However, the role of CatSper in EV-evoked calcium signaling and its potential physiological significance remain unclear. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION: EV isolated from the seminal plasma of normal and asthenozoospermic semen were utilized to investigate the mechanism by which EV regulates calcium signal in human sperm, including the involvement of CatSper and the responsible cargoes in EV. In addition, the clinical application potential of EV and EV protein-derived peptides were also evaluated. This is a laboratory study that went on for more than 5 years and involved more than 200 separate experiments. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS: Semen donors were recruited in accordance with the Institutional Ethics Committee on human subjects of the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University and Jiangxi Maternal and Child Health Hospital. The Flow NanoAnalyzer, western blotting, and transmission electron microscope were used to systematically characterize seminal plasma EV. Sperm [Ca2+]i responses were examined by fluorimetric measurement. The whole-cell patch-clamp technique was performed to record CatSper currents. Sperm motility parameters were assessed by computer-assisted sperm analysis. Sperm hyperactivation was also evaluated by examining their penetration ability in viscous methylcellulose media. Protein and non-protein components in EV were analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrum. The levels of prostaglandins, reactive oxygen species, malonaldehyde, and DNA integrity were detected by commercial kits. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE: EV increased [Ca2+]i via an extracellular Ca2+ influx, which could be suppressed by a CatSper inhibitor. Also, EV potentiated CatSper currents in human sperm. Furthermore, the EV-in [Ca2+]i increase and CatSper currents were absent in a CatSper-deficient sperm, confirming the crucial role of CatSper in EV induced Ca2+ signaling in human sperm. Both proteins and non-protein components of EV contributed to the increase of [Ca2+]i, which were important for the effects of EV on human sperm. Consequently, EV and its cargos promoted sperm hyperactivated motility. In addition, seminal plasma EV protein-derived peptides, such as NAT1-derived peptide (N-P) and THBS-1-derived peptide (T-P), could activate the sperm calcium signal and enhance sperm function. Interestingly, EV derived from asthenozoospermic semen caused a lower increase of [Ca2+]i than that isolated from normal seminal plasma (N-EV), and N-EV significantly improved sperm motility and function in both asthenozoospermic samples and frozen-thawed sperm. LARGE SCALE DATA: N/A. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION: This was an in vitro study and caution must be taken when extrapolating the physiological relevance to in vivo regulation of sperm. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS: Our findings demonstrate that the CatSper-mediated-Ca2+ signaling is involved in EV-modulated sperm function under near physiological conditions, and EV and their derivates are a novel CatSper and sperm function regulators with potential for clinical application. They may be developed to improve sperm motility resulting from low [Ca2+]i response and/or freezing and thawing. The economic losses incurred due to reduced muscle pigmentation highlight the crucial role of melanin-based coloration in the meat of black-bone chickens. Melanogenesis in the breast muscle of black-bone chickens is currently poorly understood in terms of molecular mechanisms. This study employed whole-transcriptome sequencing to analyze black and white breast muscle samples from black-bone chickens, leading to the identification of 367 differentially expressed (DE) mRNAs, 48 DElncRNAs, 104 DEcircRNAs, and 112 DEmiRNAs involved in melanin deposition. Based on these findings, a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network was developed to better understand the complex mechanisms of melanin deposition. Furthermore, our analysis revealed key DEmRNAs (TYR, DCT, EDNRB, MLPH and OCA2) regulated by DEmiRNAs (gga-miR-140-5p, gga-miR-1682, gga-miR-3529, gga-miR-499-3p, novel-m0012-3p, gga-miR-200b-5p, gga-miR-203a, gga-miR-6651-5p, gga-miR-7455-3p, gga-miR-31-5p, miR-140-x, miR-455-x, novel-m0065-3p, gga-miR-29b-1-5p, miR-455-y, novel-m0085-3p, and gga-miR-196-1-3p). These DEmiRNAs competitively interacted with DElncRNAs including MSTRG.2609.2, MSTRG.4185.1, LOC112530666, LOC112533366, LOC771030, LOC107054724, LOC121107411, LOC100859072, LOC101750037, LOC121108550, LOC121109224, LOC121110876, and LOC101749016, as well as DEcircRNAs, such as novel_circ_000158, novel_circ_000623, novel_001518, and novel_circ_003596. The findings from this study provide insight into the mechanisms that regulate lncRNA, circRNA, miRNA, and mRNA expression in chicken melanin deposition.

Identification of molecular subtypes of malignant tumors plays a vital role in individualized diagnosis, personalized treatment, and prognosis prediction of cancer patients. The continuous improvement of comprehensive tumor genomics database and the ongoing breakthroughs in deep learning technology have driven further advancements in computer-aided tumor classification. Although the existing classification methods based on gene expression omnibus database take the complexity of cancer molecular classification into account, they ignore the internal correlation and synergism of genes. To solve this problem, we propose a multi-layer graph convolutional network model for breast cancer subtype classification combined with hierarchical attention network. This model constructs the graph embedding datasets of patients' genes, and develops a new end-to-end multi-classification model, which can effectively recognize molecular subtypes of breast cancer. A large number of test data prove the good performance of this new model in the classification of breast cancer subtypes. Compared to the original graph convolutional neural networks and two mainstream graph neural network classification algorithms, the new model has remarkable advantages. The accuracy, weight-F1-score, weight-recall, and weight-precision of our model in seven-category classification has reached 0.851 7, 0.823 5, 0.851 7 and 0.793 6 respectively. In the four-category classification, the results are 0.928 5, 0.894 9, 0.928 5 and 0.865 0 respectively. In addition, compared with the latest breast cancer subtype classification algorithms, the method proposed in this paper also achieved the highest classification accuracy. In summary, the model proposed in this paper may serve as an auxiliary diagnostic technology, providing a reliable option for precise classification of breast cancer subtypes in the future and laying the theoretical foundation for computer-aided tumor classification.

Superhydrophobic surfaces (SHSs) have possibilities for achieving significantly reduced solid-liquid frictional drag in the marine sector due to their excellent water-repelling properties. Although the stability of SHSs plays a key role in drag reduction, little consideration was given to the effect of extreme environments on the ability of SHSs to achieve drag reduction underwater, particularly when subjected to acidic conditions. Here, we propose interconnected microstructures to protect superhydrophobic coatings with the aim of enhancing the stability of SHSs in extreme environments. The stability of armored SHSs (ASHSs) was demonstrated by the contact angle and bounce time of droplets on superhydrophobic surfaces treated by various methods, resulting in an ASHS surface with excellent stability under extreme environmental conditions. Additionally, inspired by microstructures protecting superhydrophobic nanomaterials from frictional wear, the armored superhydrophobic spheres (ASSPs) were designed to explain from theoretical and experimental perspectives why ASSPs can achieve sustainable drag reduction and demonstrate that the ASSPs can achieve drag reduction of over 90.4% at a Reynolds number of 6.25 × 104 by conducting water entry experiments on spheres treated in various solutions. These studies promote a fundamental understanding of what drives the application of SHSs under extreme environmental conditions and provide practical strategies to maximize frictional drag reduction.
